although i don’t get to design as much as i’d like to during the normal workday, i try to keep my skills sharp by learning a new trick or technique at least once a week.

this one’s from an idea of making the subject of a photo appear as if she’s breaking into pieces (or assembling, depending upon your point of view). on the left is what i started with, and you can see that i extended the canvas and the background to give the pieces somewhere to go. the pieces were made with an x-shaped pattern brush (and the pattern was sampled from the original photo).
